( l r) Grandfather Peter, sister Lorraine, sister Sharon(holding banner) unknown, Wilf , Peter holding bul.l The Purebred Herd was established in 1951 and we conributed to our first Calgary Bull Sale in 1955 and we have never missed a year. Small groups of big rough cows were added from different breeders, and in 1958 we bought Standard Lad 4L from John McCardell of Carstairs, AB. He was a breeding bull, he brought continuity, uniformity, and style to our herd. He was a bull that was a head of his time and he would still be useful today. He sired our first Calgary Bull Sale Grand Champion in 1963. ![]() above in 1970 Digest is Domino DP Lad The next important bull was Domino DP Lad a bull bred by Hume Porteous, and owned jointly with Doug Morris. This was a breeding bull and his influence is in every cow on our ranch. He produced superior daughters as well as sons. He sired three Calgary Bull Sale Grand Champions 1970, 1971, 1974 and three years his sons were the high sellers. He was a changer. The extra length of quarter that this bull had set him apart from the rest. Today he would not have been considered a large bull but he was in those days. The 1974 Champion Bull was the first champion over 2000 pounds. Domino DP Lad had a terrific hair coat, if you poured water on him his hide would not get wet. ![]() above is 1974 Calgary Grand Champion
